Carlos Alvarado, Costa Rica’s president said in a statement, “the digital nomad uses services, consumes food, utilizes transportation, makes purchases and hire people. All of these produce more employment and growth in the country.”
The law was signed on August 11. While some details have still to be confirmed, people can apply for the 12-month digital nomad visa within a matter of weeks.
What’s included in this 12-month digital nomads visa?
Presently, digital nomads enter Costa Rica as travelers and so have to leave the cuntry every 90 days. However, this new visa will let the holder and their families stay in Costa Rica for uop to one year.
Under this visa, the holder is free from paying local income taxes and is allowed to open a bank account in Costa Rica. They can drive using their own country’s driving license.

You must have proof of an income greater than $3000 per month to apply. If you’re traveling with your spouse or family, that income can be combined to $5000 per month.
